I feel like I wrote a post about collecting but I can’t find it on this blog so maybe it was in fact a conversation. The act of collecting is an interesting one. As I wrap up my third semester of graduate school I have been looking back at all of the artifacts (both digital and physical) I have collected over the past few months. Videos, images, unfinished word docs, paper, trash, weight and the list goes on.

I headed to good ole Merriam-Webster and here’s the definition I found:

collect (verb): to bring together into one body or place

I started to think about collecting and how it is really a gathering of memories. The very act of collecting is in of itself an experience to be remembered, imprinted, collected. Collecting experiences. . . blah, blah, blah. . . stream of consciousness writing again. . .

Here are some cool images I found of collections:

Wrapping up the semester. This class was pretty awesome. Learned a ton and will take the lessons moving forward. Signing off this digital journal portion of my blog with a quote from the course textbook:

“While everything, technically, is an experience of some sort, there is something important and special to many experiences that make them worth discussing. In particular, the elements that contribute to superior experiences are knowable and reproducible, which make them designable. . . all experiences are important.” – Experience Design 1.1

So Sachi (my classmate and teammate for this project) and I went out to Yerba Buena Gardens in SF and laid out fat piece of butcher paper and some markers across the floor. The sheet asked people, “what if?” We wanted to see how people would interact with a the piece to inform our project. Here’s what happened. . .

We had our second to last residency for semester! Ahhhhhh! I hope my group lands on our feet. . .

And I am stuffed from Thanksgiving dinner. You know that bloated feeling that you get when it feels like your stomach is going to pop any second? Yeah. . .

Umm. . .anyway, we’ve been looking at the Republican use of  “morals” as a brand strategy and the Occupy Wall Street movement.

In class we had two perfumers come by and give a  lecture on perfuming. We got to smell lots of great scents and by the end of it, my nose felt like this:

This was an interesting group assignment, considering the fact that our group has a hard time deciding when to even start a meeting. . .
